Thymalin
Description
Thymalin is not a defined single substance but a polypeptide fraction obtained from calf thymus by mild acid extraction. As a mixture it has neither a molecular formula nor a single molecular weight nor a sequence. Characterised constituents include the dipeptides L-Glu-L-Trp and Lys-Glu. Strictly to be distinguished from thymulin, a defined zinc-dependent nonapeptide (C33H54N12O15, 858.9 Da); the CAS number 63958-90-7 widely quoted for "thymalin" belongs to thymulin.
